Rocket Mass Heaters are DIY-friendly masonry heaters. Each project has unique elements, like the height of the chimnye or the available floor space, that may affect the design.
Most rocket mass heaters share common features, like the shape of the firebox and routine maintenance. However, as with many DIY projects, only the builder really knows what is underneath the surface.
This booklet is _not_ a set of plans, but a fill-in-the-blanks owner manual designed to help builders keep track of their project, and pass on relevant information to housemates and future owners.
This manual includes sample drawings, fill-in-the-blank areas for site-specific details, operation and maintenance logs, and standard instructions for how to light, clean, and maintain the heater. There is also a troubleshooting section that addresses problems that may come up due to design, maintenance, or operational oversights. The generic information, like how to inspect the heater and how to light the fire, is relevant for any of our 6" or 8" rocket mass heater designs (sold separately).
The total length is about 20 pages (updates will be substituted from time to time). We offer a complimentary copy of this manual to our clients during a paid consultation or site assessment, and other builders who use similar heater designs are encouraged to make up to 3 copies per project (one for the owner, one for the builder, and one for posterity).
